Why PJ’s Coffee Franchise Will Never Go Out of Style
By: PJ's CoffeeWe may be living in economic uncertainty, but for a brand like ours, that has been around for more than 40 years, it’s nothing we can’t handle.
It doesn’t hurt that coffee is one of the most popular beverages worldwide, but PJ’s Coffee strategy for thriving, even during chaos, doesn’t rely solely on the demand for coffee. We achieved a 18.8% same-store sales increase in 2021 over 2020, in addition to countless awards and accolades, including a title as #280 on Entrepreneur Magazine’s 2022 Franchise 500 List. After the spectacular year we had in 2021, 2022 is shaping up to be an even better year for our franchise partners.
Our Brand Has Always Been Forward-Thinking
While some brands might stumble at hardship, PJ’s Coffee has approached global events such as the pandemic as a jumping-off point for change and improvement for our coffee shop franchise. While we’d already been meeting our guests’ need for quick and convenient service, we multiplied our efforts to streamline. As the need for limited contact increased, we developed a drive-thru-only location since drive-thru remains popular across the nation.
Furthermore, sustainability has continued to be a pressing issue for guests, who are more educated than ever on the processes from farm to coffee cup. For years now, we’ve partnered with farms in Nicaragua and Honduras to ensure that the coffee we serve at every location is fair trade and meets our high standards for flavor. When 60% of customers today seriously consider a product’s sustainability before purchasing, it’s become an imperative element of any competitive business. Luckily for PJ’s Coffee franchisees, we’ve had numerous environmental certifications for years.
The Changes We’ve Made Reap a Major Profit for PJ’s Coffee Franchisees
For us, pushing forward has always been crucial, especially when other brands try to play it safe. In fact, each addition to PJ’s Coffee franchise that we’ve made since the start of 2020 has defined much of our success over the past two years.
We made one of the most exciting changes at the height of the pandemic in partnership with Tyra Harris, a franchisee based in Prince George’s County, MD. She was excited to be the first to debut our new pastry, the beignet, but we couldn’t anticipate her guests' instantaneous outpouring of enthusiasm. That first day, she sold out what we estimated to be a month’s supply. Since then, beignets have become a popular staple of our menu.
From Rookies to Award Winners
A crucial component to our success through thick and thin has been our dedication to providing top-notch support to all of our franchisees so that no matter their experience level, we’re giving them all the tools they need to succeed. After all, we’re partners in business, and to PJ’s Coffee, that also means you’re part of the family.
Kristy and Bobby Mounts are two of our most successful PJ’s Coffee franchise owners. However, before PJ’s, Bobby’s professional experience came from his career as a police officer, not the food service industry. After he retired, he wanted to own his own business and the stars aligned when he won our Veteran Franchise License Giveaway in 2020. A year later (and a year deep into the pandemic), he won our 2021 Rookie Franchise of the Year Award. Bobby Mounts is an excellent example of how PJ’s Coffee’s franchise support makes all the difference for our franchisees.
PJ’s Coffee Franchisees Stay Ahead of Trends
PJ’s Coffee has been setting trends all this time, no matter what else is going on in the world, because we’re more interested in what’s next than holding onto old news. Together with our franchisees, we’ve surpassed many of our goals during the most challenging times in recent years, and we suspect we have many more to achieve side by side.
